Crystal Globes

Sometimes,

When I need an energizer

I think of days of snow.

I recall waking up on a sunny morn

With snow glistening everywhere

And my breath crystallized in front of me.

I still remember.

I remember this little boy

And that little girl

Shelling snowballs at each other

Frozen in a youthful state.

I remember my little brother

Packing snow densely

And I would help him

Make a snowy friend

And bring him to life.

I see her with her blonde hair

Making snow angels

And with these newfound wings

She carries me with her

To fly among the snowflakes

Each one as different

As every complex human being.

What do I do after all this?

I take the crystal globe

Shake it up some more

And go out

Enjoying my life

Making each day as hopeful

As this one.

Trilogies

hannahhurt:

bg5000:

Can anybody name a third part of a trilogy that doesn’t pretty much suck? I can’t really think of any off the top of my head and, as Doc Zeus points out, that trend doesn’t really bode well for Jigga’s Blueprint 3.

um, try Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. hellz yeah.

Oh I don’t know…a little movie called RETURN OF THE JEDI!.

I can't decide

hannahhurt:

what looks cooler for a tumblr name (mine, specifically): hannahhurt (first and last name) OR hannahalexander (first and middle name)?

Hannahhurt is cooler because it rolls off the tongue.  It’s alliteration.

Is it true?

carmenmariah:

They all say “all you need is love.” It’s everywhere. People are constantly saying it, writing it, blogging it. I mean, I get it. It’s adorable, idealistic and sweet. But I have started to wonder, is it true?

I’m really on the fence with this one. I’d like to be optimistic. I just don’t know if that would be true to what I feel. I think the sentiment behind “all you need is love” is commonly misconstrued to mean all you need is to be in love. I can vouch that this sentiment is untrue in the highest. I’m disinclined to believe that being in love is all anyone needs, or that anyone can even believe that.

What about everything else? I need my family. I need my friends. I need my job.  I know it sounds cynical, but I need all of those things much more than I’ll ever need to be in love. Those three things keep me sane. Without them, I’d be wandering around aimlessly. Being in love won’t give me a career, it won’t give me my gay best friend, it won’t give me my girlfriends who sit up late with me and eat cookie dough, it won’t give me childhood memories I share with my family. It isn’t everything.

I don’t think that admiting this is cynical- I think it’s real. This whole issue makes me think of something Jamie blogged yesterday:

some people think of love in one dimension, the “in love” kind of love. someone told me if im always talking, posting, and tatting myself up with love then i wont find it. my response: love is not just the “in love” kind - im surrounded by love & im single and im A O K with that. its a fact: you dont need a boyfriend/girlfriend to feel loved & im thankful to have so much love in my life. i love being surrounded by love. any kind.

The sentiment “all you need is love” in its true form, not warped to mean all you need is to be in love, is something I buy into. All you need is love, to me, means all you need is what you love. All you need are those who love you. This encompasses the whole spectrum of loving that goes on in my life. I get this. I get that what everyone needs are the things and people they love.

Pegg's Notches and Wright's Rights part 2

For some reason, I am amazed by how good Hot Fuzz is.  I saw it a couple years ago in theaters, and I liked it but I didn’t give it enough credit.  But ever since then, it has really grown on me.  With each time I watch it, I respect it more.

Usually, when I am presented with a cop movie, I immediately think “oh boy, I know how this one is going to go…same old shit”.  But it’s different with Hot Fuzz.  It’s fresh and original.  Once again, Pegg and Wright strike with that witty new look at a timeless movie idea, the cop movie.

I just realized that in Hot Fuzz, Simon Pegg is basically like Serpico.  A British, less hairier version of Serpico.  I’m not putting the movie down or anything, it’s just that the thought came to my mind just now.

Anyway, I never get sick of this movie because unlike a lot of other cop movies that deal with drugs, prostitution, rape, and the like, this movie deals with something else entirely.  It’s about one of those small towns in the English countryside where the people who run the town are insanely adept at keeping the town in order.  If you step out of line at all (meaning if you show signs of wanting to leave or being noticed) then you’re killed.  Simple as that.

Throughout the movie it seems like Nicholas Angel is the only sane one in town, as he tries and tries to solve murders that everyone else just deems as “accidents.”  The guy whose house blows up.  The woman who happens to fall on her shears.

The best part of the movie is seriously one part that will never, and I mean, NEVER, be replicated, because in order to do that, it would have to be the exact same scene.  Nick and his buddy Danny have a shootout with the members of the town who are also the cult members that run the town, and it’s so unexpectedly funny.  Normally, you WOULDN’T be laughing at an old lady being shot down, but in this case you are.  Old men, doctors, priests, gardeners, female store owners, they are all in on it and shooting away with machine guns.  Nowhere else will you see a movie that has this kind of action, and I mean it.  What other gunfight is made to make YOU laugh while people are being shot?

I will never tire of watching this.  HOT FUZZ 2!

Simon Pegg's Notches and Edgar Wright's Rights

Whenever people get sick of American comedy like the Farrelly Brothers or Kevin Smith (even though I love his movies), they can always skip across the pond, er, lake, aww I mean, the OCEAN, and have a gander at fresh comedy from Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright.  There are still way too many people who don’t know who these guys are, but everyone should know their names.  They really make you think about the state of American movies.

That’s what Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright do.  They present fresh and original takes on movies that we take for granted.

Even though I hate zombie movies, I still admit that Shaun of the Dead is a fresh and original take on the genre.  How many zombie movies do you know of that play “Don’t Stop Me Now”?  Even more, throughout the whole movie, even though they’re being serious about the fact that zombies are chasing them, there is a bit of lightheartedness about it all.  And the cherry on top is that in the end, the zombies are turned useful people.  Dawn of the Dead doesn’t do that.  I may be looking at this a little too much, but that part of the movie may be telling us that it doesn’t matter what we look like or who we are, we can still be useful to society.  And it shows that friendships obviously don’t know any bounds.

Vimeo Tribute: Star Wars (via Vimeo)

I always wanted to be Han Solo.

What is Brett Favre doing?

He’s 38, going on 39.  He’s set various passing records.  He’s won a Super Bowl.  And yet, he still wants to play? If he continues playing, he might not have any knees to walk around with.  What kind of publicity stunt is this?

If I was 38 years old, having done all that in the NFL and even won a Super Bowl, and I had the option of relaxing for the rest of my life with hundreds of millions of dollars stored away, which would mean I could do any fucking thing I would want to do, well I’d retire and relax.

I think he’s in denial.  I mean, sooner or later he has to quit.  He can’t go on till he’s 50.  He’s not George Blanda.  (For those of you who don’t know, George Blanda is a guy from the 40s-70s who kicked and passed and played till he was like 46).
